The Division of Disease Control's mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases, which is achieved through varied and interrelated endeavors of its seven Bureaus. The Bureau of Communicable Disease (BCD) is a diverse program with approximately 120 staff. BCD monitors and analyzes trends in disease data and provides consultation to the medical community and the public on the recognition, prevention, and control of communicable diseases.
BCD is responsible for the surveillance, prevention, and control of over 70 infectious diseases including foodborne, enteric, waterborne, respiratory (including COVID-19), zoonotic, and vector-borne diseases.
Reporting to the BCD's Human Resources Team Lead, the Administrative and Human Resources Coordinator will assist with all human resources and administrative tasks for BCD's 120 staff. You will engage with internal agency and external community partners by managing incoming telephone inquiries from healthcare providers and the general public. You will collaborate with the Bureau's Community Outreach and Health Education Team to identify or develop educational materials or activities to address common inquiries received by the Bureau.
You will also perform administrative/human resources dissemination, overseeing training compliance, and updating BCD's organizational charts.
- Manage incoming telephone inquiries from healthcare providers and the general public
- Build and maintain directory of internal agency contacts and community partners
- Assist with community outreach, public health education and prevention initiatives
- Oversee monthly schedule of staff performing telephone triage of BCD's main telephone number
- Perform data entry of disease reports, case investigation, and outbreak data forms into a surveillance database
- Liaise with commercial laboratories to ensure specimens are sent to public health laboratories
- Compile and prepare materials for mass mailings to healthcare providers and patients
- Participate in special projects - assist BCD staff, as assigned
- Good writing and verbal communication skills
- Strong typing skills with speed and accuracy
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software

- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
