Venipuncture Technician Clinical Support Assistant (Job Number: 2503164)
Responsibilities- Provide information to patients, hospital staff, community physicians, agency and institutional clients related to laboratory testing, specimen collection, laboratory services, result reporting and specimen tracking, including daily rapprochement of laboratory reports.
- Offer patient services including LSARD and outpatient registration processes; manage knowledge of insurance providers, billing codes, order entry, Sunquest laboratory information systems, result reporting, crediting functions and discharging per University Hospital policies and regulatory agency mandates, including ICD‑10‑CM billing codes, medical necessity and Medicare questionnaires.
- Handle all processing of biological specimens in the optimal way to assure specimen integrity and maintain all safety regulations per established procedures.
- Demonstrate competency with both Department of Laboratories Information System, Sunquest and Cerner patient management systems.
- Assist all clients with problem resolution and provide prompt and accurate resolutions to service issues, testing problems and billing concerns.
- Maintain all records and patient files in accordance with University Hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including regulatory agency mandates Hot labs from NYSDOH, CAP and JCAHO.
- Act as a liaison for courier services, identify concerns and help arrange services to meet departmental needs.
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures to ensure proper collection and processing of patient specimens per established standards.
- Maintain adequate supplies and alternate stock, order and distribute supplies to outreach clients.
- Maintain all measures of quality control as related to the patient and customer services centers.
- Rotate willingly between the Customer Service Center, the Patient Service Center, and off‑site areas and work hours to meet departmental needs.

** Phlebotomy Certification by a technical training program; two years of phlebotomy experience with at पसट touch, at least one year of pediatric phlebotomy experience; customer competency with laboratory and hospital information systems; customer‑service experience in a clinical setting; knowledge of insurance providers, ICD‑10‑CM coding, medical necessity, medical terminology and outpatient registration processing.
** Associate’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology; two years of customer‑service experience in a clinical health‑care setting; or in lieu of a degree, four years of clinical laboratory experience including at least one year of customer‑service experience in a clinical health‑care setting.
