Job Summary: The Health Educator will play a critical role in advance health and wellness education for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This position is responsible for designing and delivering engaging educational content for internal staff, members, families, and the broader provider community. The Health Educator will leverage multiple platforms— including in-person sessions, webinars, and digital media— to promote best practices in health, wellness, and preventative care.
A key component of this role includes creating accessible and informative You Tube videos tailored for members and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Educational Program Development:
- Design and implement health and wellness education programs focused on unique needs of people with IDD.
- Develop culturally competent person-centered materials for diverse audiences.
Content Creation and Delivery:
- Produce engaging You Tube videos and other multimedia content for members and families.
- Deliver live and virtual training sessions for staff and external stakeholders.
- Create toolkits, fact sheets, and social stories to support health literacy.
Collaboration and Outreach:
- Partner with internal teams (Clinical, Care Management, ILD, Provider Relations, Member Relations) to align educational initiatives with organizational goals.
- Engage with provider networks and community organizations to expand outreach and impact.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:
- Assess program effectiveness through feedback, surveys, and outcome metrics.
- Stay current on evidence-based practices and emerging trends in health education for people with IDD.
Other duties:
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Follow all mandated reporting requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License from New York, or a contiguous state (i.e., Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont) OR must have the ability to take ample public transportation to attend meetings in person in the community and in the office as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Nursing, Social Work or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in health education, preferably with experience in IDD or disability services.
- Demonstrated ability to create multimedia content and deliver engaging presentations.
- Strong communication and teaching skills.
- Proficiency in video production tools and platforms (You Tube, Canva, etc.).
- Knowledge of health literacy principles and person-centered approaches.
- Familiarity with OPWDD HCBS waiver services and IDD-specific health challenges.
- Creative mindset with ability to simplify complex health topics for diverse audiences.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural competency.
- Absolute sense of integrity and personal commitment to serving people with IDD and their families.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and ability to work in a team environment.
