Medical Scribe (Full-time in Primary Care Setting)

Location: 2721 Bronxwood Ave, Bronx, NY 10469

Base hourly wage: $19.88 (additional compensation such as bonuses, overtime, etc. may apply)

Role Description

The purpose of a Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health is to support primary‑care providers with clinical documentation, enabling them to focus on delivering exceptional patient care. Scribes participate in daily huddles, observe and document patient encounters in real time, and assist with post‑visit documentation and care coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Documenting Patient Encounters (~80%)
    • Join the provider in the exam room to observe visits
    • Document encounters in a structured note (history, assessment, plan, physical exam)
    • Assign appropriate CPT and ICD‑10 codes
    • Prepare After‑Visit Summaries
    • Consult with the provider to ensure accurate, specific documentation
  • Clinical Documentation Improvement (~10%)
    • Request and review medical records
    • Leverage Oak Street’s population‑health tools to support documentation improvement
    • Support daily huddles and documentation reviews
    • Consult with the provider on documentation opportunities
  • Administrative Support for your provider and care team (~10%)
    • Place orders and referrals
    • Address routine tasks
    • Assist the care team with documentation‑related responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For Knowledge
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications (from a pre‑medical degree or prior clinical experience)
  • Prior clinical experience, including shadowing or volunteering
  • Prior scribe or transcription experience
Skills
  • Advanced listening and communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
  • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by the local community
Abilities
  • Adapt quickly to new workflows and concepts
  • Type 70+ words per minute
  • Take direction and work as part of a patient‑care team
  • Self‑starter within the scope of the role
  • Excellent job attendance; ability to work in‑person during clinic hours
  • Commit to at least 1 year in the role (2+ years preferred)
  • Work approximately 40–45 hours per week during clinic hours (full‑time)
  • Comply with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA
  • Hold US work authorization

Pay Range

Typical pay range: $17.00 – $34.15 per hour. The actual offer depends on experience, education, geography, and other factors.

  • Eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program in addition to this range.
