Position SummaryWe have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Care Technician – Inpatient Holding, Part-time, Evening. In this role, the successful candidate assists professional nurses with patient care tasks, provides safe compassionate care, supports unit supply and equipment maintenance, and demonstrates NYU Langone Core Values in all job aspects.
Job Responsibilities- Demonstrates knowledge of NYU Langone Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
- Respects patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and rights.
- Accountable for supplies, equipment, and environmental support.
- Assists in collecting data for the Quality and Performance Improvement Program, including patient satisfaction measures.
- Assists the nurse in reviewing and implementing corrective action plans regarding patient/family response and satisfaction.
- Recognizes own limitations and requests assistance when needed.
- Discusses educational concerns and goals with the Nurse Manager or leadership.
- Seeks learning resources for identified learning needs.
- Participates in orientation of other patient care technicians and unit meetings.
- Completes annual mandatory education requirements for patient care technicians.
- Demonstrates awareness of patient age group needs, behaviors, and cultural differences.
- Assists in supporting unit activities as requested and emergency situations.
- Utilizes specialized skills and safety when performing specific patient care tasks such as phlebotomy, glucose finger sticks, and ECG.
- Demonstrates understanding of infection prevention and control standards.
- Assists in data collection and maintains safety and comfort needs of patients and families.
- Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures per unit operations.
- Communicates responsiveness and support to patients, families, and staff.
- Observes general behavior and reports to the registered nurse.
- Performs safety observations for patients on continuous observation or restraints.
- Provides assistance to patients in activities applicable.
- Completes delegated responsibilities as directed by the registered nurse.
- Uses a clear, caring, respectful communication style with patients, families, nurses, and team members.
- Answers patient call lights promptly and reports requests not within role to the professional nurse.
- Reports all observations concerning patients to the professional nurse.>
- Provides security of patient personal property and handles valuables per hospital procedure.
- Gives direct assistance to all team members, including nurses, PNPs, physicians, attendants, clerks, escort, dietary, and other health employees.
- Assists in having patients ready for scheduled appointments, placing them on a stretcher or in a wheelchair, running errands to other departments, and delivering specimens and equipment.
- Assists in keeping the patient environment, equipment and areas clean, safe, and orderly.
- Ensures necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit.
To qualify you must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience, or CNA graduate plus course completion in EKG & phlebotomy and PCT certification plus at least 6 months hospital experience, or PCT certification through National Health career Association with at least 6 months hospital experience. BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association is required upon entry.
Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire.
Senior Nursing Attendant minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant Program, certified as a CNA, and at least 6 months relevant experience. BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification is required upon entry.
