Job Summary
The Outpatient Administrative Specialist will perform standardized patient check‑in and check‑out procedures, including entering and verifying demographic, insurance and financial information, and generating routine forms and documentation. Responsibilities also include completing FMLA and disability forms, processing incoming/outgoing appointment referrals for all providers, scheduling complex multi‑provider appointments, and providing administrative support to ambulatory patient care functions. The role involves collecting patient co‑pays, managing denial processes, assisting with front desk tasks, advising patients on insurance carrier requirements, obtaining ABN’s and waivers of liability, answering calls, and obtaining insurance authorizations as needed.
The specialist will prioritize incoming mail, faxes, and correspondence and accept assignments to other areas as required.
• Associates Degree and two years of relevant experience in a healthcare‑related setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical coding
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to multitask all support roles in a high‑volume setting
• Excellent phone and in‑person customer service, strong computer skills, and keyboard proficiency
• Working knowledge of computer systems such as Epic, Word, Outlook, etc.
• Understanding of insurances and referrals
