Job DescriptionPurpose:
The Physician Assistant (Psych PA) Fellow works under the direction of the Department Chair / Associate Chair / Director of Nursing and clinical supervision of an attending psychiatrist. The Fellow works collaboratively with Behavioral Health services and disciplines to assess, diagnose, and implement comprehensive psychiatric care and treatment for patients within the Adult Behavioral Health Unit at South Brooklyn Health. This role is intended to support clinical staff in providing evidence based psychiatric care and to foster the Fellows clinical and professional development within a multidisciplinary behavioral health setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Physician Assistant (Psych PA) is charged with and responsible for:
- Perform psychiatric assessments and mental status examinations of adult psychiatric patients.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending psychiatrists and the multidisciplinary team.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on psychiatric and medical studies.
- Manage and prescribe psychotropic medications, assess clinical responses, and monitor for adverse effects.
- Participate in crisis intervention and behavioral health deescalation within a trauma informed and recovery oriented framework.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely medical records.
- Engage patients and families in patient centered treatment planning and education.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, staff meetings, and quality improvement activities.
- Participate in clinical training, supervision, and continuing education to build expertise in psychiatric care.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other disciplines to support a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of clinical practice and role.
- Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant;
- Current limited permit issued by New York State to practice as a Physician Assistant.
