Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. Purpose of PositionThis class of positions encompasses professional and/or supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty in the field of psychology, providing psychological services to individuals and groups across various settings, including Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics (FPECC), which may include participation in the process of commitment of patients to institutional care. Ensures patient‑centered quality care and services in support of better outcomes and improved patient experience, in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and psychology standards of care.

Under direction, with broad latitude for independent or unreviewed action or decision‑making, performs responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology.
Examples of Typical Tasks- Through clinical interviewing and/or through the selection, administration, and interpretation of standard group and individual tests of personality development and intellectual capacity, evaluates individuals’ emotional and intellectual functioning.
- Maintains suitable records and files of test performance and treatment results.
- Prepares reports of psychological findings which may be included in clinical case histories and files.
- Consults with psychiatrists, social workers, judges and other relevant parties regarding diagnoses, prognoses and recommendations for disposition of individual cases.
- Attends and may participate in psychological and general staff conferences.
- Participates in individual and group research by evaluating initial summarization and quantitative treatment of data, preparing research reports for publication.
- May be required to provide psychological consultation services on non‑clinical issues, and may offer psychological consultation services to other city agencies.
- May participate in treatment programs administering psychotherapy.
- May provide neuro‑psychological and vocational assessments.
- May prepare commitment papers, including write‑ups and documentation for cases.
- May give instruction or training in psychodiagnostic and/or therapeutic techniques.
- May oversee the work of psychology interns, social workers and paraprofessional mental health workers.
- May conduct research on test development and contribute to formulation of hypotheses and details of research design.
- May be required to testify in court or at other hearings.
- Supervises the work of unlicensed psychologists and other subordinate staff in the areas of diagnosis, therapy, and research, and coordinates their activities with the work of other professional workers.
- Evaluates and develops habilitation plans and treats individuals for addictions, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychological disorders.
- Administers therapy in difficult atypical cases, including individual, group and family counseling and/or therapy.
- Coordinates training programs and conducts case conferences and seminars for training purposes.
- Gives formal and informal instruction to psychologists and psychologists‑in‑training on diagnostic, therapeutic and research techniques.
