A Brief Overview

Under the direction/guidance of a mentor (principal investigator), assumes responsibility for a specific, on-going research project. The experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden his/her scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group.

This role will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. This position will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. This role also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab.

About

the Laboratory

Dr. Elizabeth Diemer at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics and in the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia seeks a postdoctoral fellow to collaborate on projects aiming to improve causal inference in observational studies of pediatric health. Our research group works to develop and apply causal inference approaches for health research, with a particularly focus on pediatrics and child psychiatry.

The fellow will join a multidisciplinary team of collaborators with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and medicine. Projects will primarily focus on the use of existing large longitudinal cohort studies and electronic health record data to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of early life treatment and prevention strategies for psychiatric disorders and other pediatric health outcomes. The fellow will be given the opportunity to collaborate on a range of projects depending on interest.

These projects are anticipated to benefit from expertise in instrumental variable analysis, competing risks, target trial emulation, g-estimation of structural nested models, and/or partial identification. We applications from those with an interest in causal inference methods, pediatrics, or both.

SALARY RANGE

$20,800.00 - $ Annually
