Location: City of Rochester

Cytotechnologist - Per Diem

Department: Cytology

Location: Rochester General Hospital

Hours Per Week: As Scheduled

Schedule: Monday - Friday;
Days 8am to 4:30pm

Summary

As a Cytotechnologist, your developed examination and evaluation skills are key factors in identifying disease in gynecologic and non‑gynecologic slides, leading to critical discovery for patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Specimen & Equipment Management: screen and evaluate gynecologic and non‑gynecologic cytology specimens by microscope; document results on worksheets and in the laboratory information system; assist with fine needle aspirations, specimen preparation and staining; maintain cytology workload records.
  • Leadership: make suggestions to improve work methods and efficiency, reduce costs and solve operational problems; promote and support a positive team environment; participate in the planning and accomplishment of goals and objectives.
  • General Maintenance: perform and document routine maintenance on microscopes and quality control rescreening if qualified.
Required Qualifications
  • New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Cytotechnologist.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Cytotechnology or BS in a related Science.
  • Previous experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory a benefit.
  • Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.
Physical Requirements

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.

Pay Range: $39.00 - $46.35

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full‑time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
