La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is minutes away from Orlando, located in quiet, residential areas in Maitland and Winter Park, Florida. We treat individuals ranging from adolescents to adults. We provide treatment for adults within a confidential, structured program of support and therapy that emphasizes building health relationships, facilitating personal growth and teaching coping skills. We are dual licensed for mental health and substance use treatment, providing residential treatment, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient services.

Our adolescent program treats ages 12 through 17, helping re-establish healthy behavior while facilitating a successful transition back into the family, home, school and community.

Therapists are responsible for conducting therapeutic services for residents of La Amistad Behavioral Health Services, working closely and collaboratively with our team of psychiatrists on a daily basis. They provide counseling sessions for families, individuals and groups. Therapists are responsible for interviewing and developing the psychological history, assessing the therapeutic needs of the individual and family, developing appropriate treatment objectives and weekly treatment summaries.

Therapists act as the residents’ and families’ primary contact during the resident’s stay within the program as well as their advocate with the treatment team. Therapists are also liaisons with outside agencies and individuals for the purpose of developing and coordinating discharge planning with the treatment team and family.

Qualifications
  • Conducts individual and family psychotherapy sessions for residents on their caseload at least one time per week as part of the therapeutic process
  • Conducts general psychotherapy sessions for residents’ in‑group caseload at least four times per week. Demonstrates a high level of clinical skill in assessing the clinical needs of the resident, determining appropriate group interventions and in conducting the group in accordance with these needs.
  • Conducts specialized groups as assigned based on education, training and experience.
  • Establishes rapport, systematically gathers data; determines client’s readiness for treatment and change. Analyzes and interprets relevant data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
  • Coordinates with treatment team, family and residents in family caseload and implements discharge planning.
  • Has understanding of Common Psychiatric Diagnoses. Can recognize associated behaviors and uses proper intervention techniques for Common Psychiatric Diagnoses.
  • Documentation as required by facility Policy.
  • Evaluates and demonstrates for age‑specific behaviors, motor skills and psychological norms. Recognizes patient’s level of psychosocial development and modifies approach accordingly
Job Requirements
  • Education:

    Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling or other related fields.
  • Experience:

    One year direct clinical experience specific to family, individual and group therapy with children and/or adolescents. For specialized issue or treatment modalities, training must be specific to these: abuse reactive, sexual offending, substance abuse, sexual trauma, vocational, play therapy, art therapy and relaxation therapy. Must have knowledge of human development over the life span.
  • License/Certification:
    Current license from the State of Florida, such as LCSW, LMFT, LMFTI, LMHC or LMHCI.
