Chief Medical Physicist

The Chief Medical Physicist is a board‑certified medical physicist specializing in therapeutic clinical services in external beam and related modalities, including Adaptive‑RT, SBRT, SRS, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SGRT, brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceutical programs. The role ensures the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy, directly impacting patient care and outcomes.

At the Cancer Center of South Florida (CCSF), the Chief Medical Physicist plays a vital role within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, requiring strong clinical and interpersonal skills, a commitment to continuous learning, and leadership within the field of radiation oncology.

Core Responsibilities Clinical Quality & Efficiency
  • Oversee all technical aspects of radiation oncology services, including network treatment equipment, treatment planning systems, delivery, and ancillary equipment.
  • Establish and implement specifications for acceptance testing, calibration, and performance of all simulation, delivery, measurement, planning, QA software, and related equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory, professional, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead and participate in QA programs per AAPM guidelines, including monthly and annual equipment QA tests and weekly patient chart reviews.
  • Serve as Radiation Safety Officer and manage radiation protection programs.
  • Collaborate with TGH affiliates to implement physics and radiation quality management programs, participate in development, review, and approval of clinical procedures, and attend departmental QA and leadership meetings.
  • Act as the primary contact for leadership on matters of quality, safety, performance, and compliance related to the technical and safety aspects of radiation oncology.
  • Supervise physics and dosimetry staff, ensuring appropriate resource allocation and professional development.
  • Provide guidance on equipment procurement, technology evaluation, regulatory compliance, and billing practices.
  • Manage registration and compliance for all ionizing radiation equipment and radioactive material licenses.
  • Ensure timely maintenance of all radiation treatment equipment.
  • Coordinate the operational activities of the medical physics and dosimetry teams.
  • Deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective physics support and treatment planning services.
  • Stay current with advancements in radiation oncology, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate personal reliability and efficiency in handling treatment planning responsibilities.
  • Perform and verify treatment planning calculations and support accurate patient billing.
  • Complete all mandatory education, training, and department‑specific competency requirements.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, including attendance, punctuality, confidentiality, dress code, identification, and workplace safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Collegiality
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, pharmacists, and administrative staff to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care.
  • Participate in chart rounds, case reviews, care planning discussions, and quality, safety, and operations meetings.
  • Maintain respectful, supportive relationships with colleagues and contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Share professional insights constructively; resolve conflicts respectfully.

  • Take initiative in solving clinical, operational, and organizational challenges.
  • Actively contribute to improving internal workflows, patient experience, and staff collaboration.
