Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing and assessing complex clinical laboratory procedures on specimens for diagnostic purposes in a timely manner.

Job Responsibilities
  • Laboratory set‑up:
    Preparation of laboratory area, containers and reagents for staining. Prepares and sets up containers, solutions, chemicals and work area. Conducts performance checks, records and maintains laboratory equipment according to laboratory policy. Ensures the appropriate and adequate supply of materials is available at all times. Recognizes and corrects reagent malfunction. Keeps work area neat and clean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including proper use of LIS;

  • Planning and time utilization:
    Efficient in adapting to changes in order to facilitate adequate staffing and effective demonstration in identifying and acting on priorities in a timely manner. Demonstrates alertness and adaptability to changes in schedule and work conditions; responds appropriately. Recognizes and deals with priorities. Uses time effectively by completing all assigned tasks in a timely manner. Utilizes spare time to accession specimens and file slides.
  • Quality Control:
    Monitors testing containers, solutions and work environment by following laboratory quality control procedures, ensuring the overall reliability of stains. Cleans testing containers regularly. Inspects reagents, solutions, and chemicals to ensure that they are of high quality and records lot numbers according to guidelines. Assures reagents are not used beyond expiration date. Runs and interprets control values to ensure standardization within deviation guidelines.

    Attempts to troubleshoot malfunctioning reagents and reports to pathologists. Maintains all daily, weekly and monthly logs.
  • Specimen preparation and testing. Prepares specimens to be tested:
    Identifies and prepares accurately specimens which have been collected by cytopathologists or other physicians in accordance with laboratory procedures. Checks samples and slides to ensure correct identification and matches with accompanying labels. Completes all scheduled and stat tests in a timely manner. Adheres to laboratory safety policies; hand‑cover slips and labels all slides. Performs all staining protocols including differential stains and modified rapid Pap stain.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a minimum of six months of experience in most laboratory disciplines. NYSDOH licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory histotechnician or clinical laboratory technician. An Associate’s Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements. A high school degree will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYSDOH and has obtained their NYS license through the grand‑parenting pathway defined by NYSDOH.

Must hold license granted by the New York State Department of Education as a clinical laboratory technologist; ASCPHT/HTL certification is not required but is preferred.
