Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Associate Director of Hospitals (Administrator of the Department of Nursing) works closely and reports directly to the Chief Nurse Executive. The Administrator is self-motivated and possesses outstanding communication, interpersonal, organization and time management skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks. The Associate Director is committed to continual learning and service excellence.



Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Administration Office
  • Under the direction of the CNE or Designee, coordinates the activities of all direct reports to the Deputy Director and Chief Nurse Executive
  • Participates in special projects and service activities for the Department of Nursing.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Nurse Executive or Designee, organizes reports for presentation to the Executive Leadership Committee, HHC Board, Patient Safety and Quality Committee, and/or other meetings.
  • Coordinates and facilitates reports of all Nursing Leaders related to staffing effectiveness, budgets, and service excellence.
  • Interface with nurse managers, supervisors, and nursing directors to assist with scheduling as necessary based on daily staffing needs.
  • Responsible for the coordination, development, and approval of the distribution of unit schedules and daily staffing plans.
  • Maintains communication with the nurse manager to determine unit needs.
  • Participates in promoting the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing service.
  • Provides input in the development, revision, and implementation of department policies and procedures, and assures attainment of goals and standards set by Nursing Department.
  • Conducts and/or attends meetings and committees as assigned, both within the hospital and with external agencies.
  • Promotes personal and professional growth.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid license and current registration to practice in a mental health discipline issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); AND
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a health care setting or regulatory agency administration, with an emphasis on development and evaluation of mental health delivery services; one (1) year of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity.
