# Job Summary

The Advanced EMT is responsible for all aspects of patient care in the out-of-hospital setting, within the scope of certification as determined by NYS DOH.

# Responsibilities

• Ensure ambulance is clean and stocked by inspection and completion of pre-run check
• Determine type of response required based on dispatch information and weather conditions
• Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury, and render appropriate emergency care per training, based on NYS BLS and AAREMS ALS Protocols
• Assist crew with patient handling, treatment, lifting, carrying, and transport
• Determine need for additional assistance or specialty services and request accordingly
• Report patient assessment and care verbally and document in PCR
• Secure appropriate patient information and follow physician orders during inter-facility transfers
• Utilize proper radio procedures per county and department policy
• Monitor patient throughout contact
• Ensure ambulance response readiness post-runs
• Coordinate with other agencies when necessary
• Adhere to department and hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols
• Maintain professional conduct and courteous interactions with patients, families, bystanders, other agency personnel, crew members, and hospital staff
• Ensure ALS equipment and supplies are service-ready before and after runs
• Perform other duties/tasks as assigned

# Qualifications/Requirements

• Experience:
  
  1 year preferred
• Education:
  
  High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• Licenses/Certifications:
  
  NYS EMT Intermediate, Critical Care, or Paramedic; current BLS; current ACLS and PALS (or equivalent) for CC or P; valid/clean NYS driver’s license; EVOC or equivalent preferred
