Position: Psychologist (Contract Position)
Location: Town of Riverhead

Overview

Suffolk County Department of Health Services, Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services is seeking to contract with licensed psychologists to perform court mandated clinical assessments on behalf of the Division for individuals both out of custody and in custody. The work is performed independently and involves conducting these exams with another licensed psychologist. Supervision is received through Division Administration.

Responsibilities
  • Court mandated clinical assessments, including competency exams (also referred to as 730 exams) and presentencing investigations/mental health evaluations (also referred to as 390.30 exams).
Work Locations & Schedule
  • Examinations are needed in Farmingville Mental Health Outpatient Treatment and Rehabilitation Program, Yaphank Correctional Facility and Riverhead Correctional Facility.
  • Examinations can be conducted Monday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Tuesday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. at the Farmingville site. Monday through Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Yaphank and Riverhead facilities.
Compensation &

Employment Type

Hourly Salary: $150/hour. This is a contract position. This role does not offer relocation assistance and sponsorship is not available.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Incumbent must possess a licensed to practice psychology in the State of New York.
Necessary Special Requirement

Incumbent must maintain a current New York State license to practice psychology throughout their employment in this contract.

Additional Position Details
  • Thorough knowledge of modern psychological tests and measurements;
  • Thorough knowledge of personality development and of the factors which contribute to mental, emotional and social maladjustments and deficiencies;
  • Good knowledge of educational disabilities and methods of remedial instruction;
  • Good knowledge of social case work;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in appraising situations and making decisions;
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
