DescriptionEmployed by PAGNY for The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H), the role involves delivering medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning within the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions annually receive mental health services, which aim to provide safe, holistic, and evidence-based interventions for a diverse population facing various mental health challenges, from serious mental illness to the stresses of incarceration.
The service offers comprehensive treatment modalities, including specialty housing for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour psychiatric on-call service, creative arts programming, DBT training, clinics across facilities, substance use treatment, re-entry services, and partnerships with training institutions.
The Patient Care Associate (PCA), supervised by a licensed nurse or medical staff, assists with performing venipuncture, finger-sticks, HIV testing and counseling, emergency responses, telehealth facilitation, clerical duties, and patient care activities such as ADLs. They observe and report on patients' mental, emotional, and physical conditions, ensuring safety, comfort, and quality of care.
Responsibilities- High School Diploma or GED.
- EKG, Phlebotomy, and Infection Control Certificates.
- BCLS Certification and computer skills.
- HIV counseling certification preferred.
- PCA/PCT/CNA Certification.
