Position Summary

The Sonographer functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician (OB/GYN) with diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure patient safety during sonographic examinations.
  • Review patient medical history and clinical information.
  • Verify that sonography orders are complete, relevant, and meet medical necessity standards.
  • Evaluate contraindications, patient preparation, and patient tolerance.
  • Communicate effectively with patients.
  • Use proper techniques and ergonomics to ensure patient comfort and data quality.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and perform diagnostic sonography as ordered.
  • Apply professional judgment and critical thinking during procedures.
  • Capture accurate images of relevant anatomy and pathology.
  • Acquire additional images if needed for diagnosis.
  • Identify and document examination limitations.
  • Review images, synthesize results, and prepare preliminary findings.
  • Refer complex questions to physicians or healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to legal and ethical standards.
  • Provide services within scope of practice and clinical standards.
  • Prepare preliminary reports for physicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Routine Daily Duties
  • Maintain logs, handle billing, and perform equipment maintenance.
  • Follow safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Consult regularly with physicians and supervisors.
Equipment Use and Maintenance
  • Perform quality control to ensure equipment accuracy.
  • Manage preventive maintenance of ultrasound machines.
  • Participate in equipment selection and training.
  • Document incidental findings impacting patient care.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from an accredited program.
  • RDMS certification required.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in OB/GYN sonography (preferred).
  • NT certification (preferred).
  • Proficiency in computer skills and documentation software.
