Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Under supervision, administers physical therapy in a health care setting. Examines and evaluates the patient's condition and plans and administers treatments to promote optimal health. Seeks to relieve pain, improve the body's movement and function, maintain cardiopulmonary function, restore, maintain and promote optimal physical function and limit disabilities resulting from injury or disease. Acts in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations and physical therapy standards of care;

performs related work.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Treats and takes measures to prevent disability or other health conditions through the application of therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation, manual therapy such as massage, mobilization and therapeutic exercise.
• Performs and interprets tests and measurements to assist in diagnosis and prognosis.
• Collaborates with members of interdisciplinary health team in planning and evaluation of treatment.
• Provides patient education in health, wellness, and safety.
• Maintains treatment area, orders supplies, keeps records and prepares reports.
• May supervise student’s training in physical therapy or physical therapist assistants.
• May make home visits.
• May accompany patients on shopping or travel excursions to assess their abilities in these situations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid license and current registration to practice as a Physical Therapist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); or,
• Valid limited permit to practice as a Physical Therapist issued by NYSED.
