Overview
NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
Position OverviewThe First Deputy Commissioner (FDC) manages the Property, Audit, Employee Services, Information Technology, and Tax Policy divisions, coordinates those divisions' work with other DOF offices, and oversees agency-wide initiatives assigned by the commissioner. The FDC Graduate Intern will report to the FDC's Project Lead and will likely have opportunities to work with the Commissioner, FDC, and/or Chief of Staff.
Key Projects and Initiatives- Communicating major First Deputy Commissioner Office program initiatives to other Department of Finance divisions.
- Identification of DOF operational issues by reviewing metrics, divisional reports, and customer inquiries made to divisions reporting to the executive leadership.
- Analyzing internal and external proposals to report findings and insights to the executive leadership.
- Improving business operations by designing or implementing best practices for improved communication and drafting models for new and improved systems, not limited to webpage improvements, workflow optimization, and pilot program requiring IT support.
- Draft and propose outreach solutions to DOF stakeholders including property owners, benefit recipients, managing agents, and motorists.

Minimum QualificationsCandidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
