Overview
The NYC Department of Probation (DOP) is a world leader in engaging with people under court-mmanded community supervision. DOP provides opportunities for those on probation to access services and opportunities that positively impact their life trajectory, through innovative partnerships with people and organizations throughout New York City. Staff engage in meaningful relationships with those on probation to enhance community safety and decrease recidivism.
Position:
Deputy Commissioner of Strategic Initiatives.
- Implementing the Commissioner’s vision and assist with advancing agency priorities by providing strategic guidance and high-level support.
- Creating and executing strategy; formalizing the agency’s strategic-planning processes; analyzing the efficacy of existing strategies; forging new working relationships and synergies across the agency.
- Establishing greater transparency and accountability for carrying out the agency’s strategy.
- Making quick decisions that can be agency wide; planning and overseeing the financial, marketing, and operational efforts.
- Coordinating staff with projects; engendering commitment to plans to ensure every business unit and all employees understand the details of the strategic plan.
- Being able to drive immediate change; creating shared alignment around a vision and executing that vision.
- Ensuring that the members of the leadership team come to agreement on strategy decisions; and testing whether the decisions being made are aligned with the strategy and working toward the agency’s goals.
- Maximum salary is not guaranteed.
- Progressive business analysis, strategic planning, or related business experience.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business requirements and operate at both the strategic and tactical level.
- Ability to effectively prioritize, execute and follow-up in a timely manner, anticipating problems and roadblocks.
- Demonstrated ability to develop practical solutions to broad, complex issues with minimal oversight.
- Hands-on experience in project/portfolio resource planning, reporting, prioritization, and budgeting.
- Proven ability to work with and influence senior management.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into user-friendly, persuasive formats and presentations.
- Experience successfully leading complex confidential projects.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Strong computer skills.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
