Position BackgroundWe are currently managing four U.S. government‑related projects:
- Two projects will conclude in September 2026
- Two additional projects have longer timelines, ending in approximately four years
We are a small, mission‑driven nonprofit organization. While the number of projects is limited, the role requires independent judgment, attention to detail, and comfort working in a lean organizational environment.
To ensure continued compliance and sound financial management, we are seeking a part‑time Senior Grants & Compliance Manager to provide oversight and support related to grants management and compliance for these U.S. government‑related projects.
⚠️ This is a long‑term part‑time position, and we are seeking candidates who can commit to at least one year.
👉 Candidates seeking short‑term transitional roles or full‑time employment are not a good fit for this position.
Key Responsibilities- Provide oversight and support related to financial management and compliance for U.S. government‑related projects
- Review project budgets, expenditures, and significant financial adjustments
- Assist in monitoring project implementation to ensure alignment with grant agreements and applicable compliance requirements
- Regularly review project progress and identify potential compliance risks
- Provide professional guidance to senior management on grants management and compliance matters
- Assist, as needed, in responding to funder inquiries, audits, or compliance reviews
- Collaborate with project staff responsible for day‑to‑day implementation, without assuming execution responsibilities
- This role does not involve day‑to‑day project management or operational execution.
- Assist in reviewing project‑related contracts, subawards, or partnership agreements from a U.S. government grants and compliance perspective, identify potential compliance risks, and flag issues for management review

- Assist, as needed, with U.S. government‑related funding applications or renewals
- Provide grants‑or compliance‑related input on organizational reports or policy‑oriented publications
- Represent the organization at meetings related to projects or funding, as appropriate
- At least three years of experience managing or supporting multiple U.S. government‑funded projects
- Familiarity with project reporting, financial reviews, or compliance support processes
- Familiarity with U.S. government‑funded projects (federal grants) and general grants management and compliance requirements
- Experience in grants management, compliance, or project oversight
- Ability to independently assess compliance issues related to financial management and project implementation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to commit to approximately 40–80 hours per month, with increased availability during quarterly reporting periods
- Candidates based in the Washington, DC or New York area are preferred, as proximity facilitates communication with funders (DC) and coordination with our office (NY), but this is not a requirement
- Chinese language skills are not required but will be considered an asset
