We are working with an established and highly regarded global strategic intelligence and advisory platform to appoint a Director focused on China, at a pivotal point in the evolution of its China capability.
This role offers a rare opportunity for an experienced China specialist to play a meaningful role in shaping the strategic direction and growth of an already well-established name in the space, with direct input into how the China desk is built, positioned, and scaled over time.
The Director will sit at the intersection of insight, advisory delivery, and senior client engagement, translating complex political, macroeconomic, and policy developments into clear, decision-useful analysis for investors and corporates.
Role Overview:
- Serve as a senior China specialist, providing forward-looking insight on macroeconomic trends, political dynamics, industrial policy, and China’s global economic footprint
- Develop and deliver original analysis across written briefings, presentations, and live discussions with clients
- Act as a core contributor to China-focused advisory mandates, supporting the structuring and execution of bespoke client work
- Partner with senior leadership to support client engagement across multiple sectors, including investment, supply chain, and strategic planning
- Track and assess emerging China-related risks and opportunities within the broader geopolitical and macro environment
- Engage regularly with external experts and senior advisors to refine and stress-test analysis
- Contribute to internal capability building, including knowledge development, junior team mentoring, and recruitment activity
Required Background:
- 8–10 years of professional experience with a strong focus on China, gained in consulting, strategy, policy, research, or the private sector
- Deep familiarity with China-related policy, political economy, and regulatory developments
- Proven ability to connect macro and policy analysis to real-world business and investment decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing senior audiences
- Experience managing multiple work streams and delivering to tight timelines
- Fluency in English; working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese required
- High levels of discretion, judgment, and professionalism
- Degree and/or postgraduate qualification in International Affairs, Economics, Public Policy, or a related discipline
