Team You’ll Work With
The Mayor’s Office of Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (OM/WBE) was created to address income inequality across the city and to address the disparity in City contracts awarded to certain ethnic and gender groups and the City’s overall representation in City contracting. OM/WBE is responsible for oversight, policy, interagency coordination, and accountability for the City’s Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE).
It serves as a one-stop shop for M/WBEs interested in doing business with the city and its agencies.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Business Diversity Officer of External Affairs, the Deputy Director of External & Legislative Affairs is an instrumental part of the Office’s leadership team. In addition to advising senior leadership and providing guidance to staff, the Deputy Director helps to define the strategic vision for the external and legislative affairs portfolio and provides key support in setting overall programming on current and new initiatives.
Moreover, the Deputy Director helps to ensure that day-to-day operations is coordinated and running smoothly with both internal and external stakeholders, including representing the Mayor’s Office in the recruitment of M/WBEs, building and maintaining relationships with M/WBE organizations, helping to coordinate press engagement opportunities, drafting talking points for senior leadership, and managing public-facing platforms such as social media handles and website content, among other related responsibilities as outlined below:
Function as a project manager on strategic initiatives within the Deputy CBDO’s portfolio and as directed.
Perform qualitative and quantitative assessments of policy proposals, strategic planning efforts, and M/WBE outcomes, and make recommendations to senior staff.
Strategize and coordinate with senior leadership on policy issues, programs, and communication plans, among other priorities as identified by the Deputy CBDO.
Serve as a liaison to external M/WBE organizations, advocacy groups, and M/WBE trade groups and associations, including helping to establish and maintain relationships and responding to/resolving constituent concerns.
Assists in the coordination of internal communications to ensure senior leadership is briefed and prepared for all external meetings and events.
Assist with the identification, research, coordination and submission of OM/WBE’s legislative priorities at the Federal, State, and City levels annually.
Assist in responding to requests made by the Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and managing relationships with key staff for each division.
Serve as a support liaison with communities, community advocates, elected officials, and civic organizations to communicate on behalf of OM/WBE, and to represent OM/WBE at external events where needed.
Collaborate with the Deputy CBDO in working with City Hall Press/Communications in helping to identify, organize, and coordinate press announcements, press releases, press events, media strategies, and speaking requests.
