Duties DescriptionPosition Information: The Department is hiring for several permanent Facility Operations Assistant 1, SG-6 positions to work at the State Fair. The Facility Operations Assistant 1s will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining event facilities and providing event services, such as set‑up, equipment operation services, and post‑event cleanup for year‑round events and the annual State Fair. The duties may include operating vehicles and equipment for snow removal, groundskeeping care, and any routine duties related to the daily care of the facilities and grounds.
The incumbent may work in a small or large crew on a specific assignment.
The Facility Operations Assistant 1 positions are permanent, full‑time positions working 40 hours per week. There are several available positions for the shifts below:
- 1st Shift: 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
- 2nd Shift: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- 3rd Shift: 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Labor Class:
There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.

Salary:
The Facility Operations Assistant 1 positions are in the CSEA Salary Grade (SG) 6. The starting salary of the CSEA SG-6 is $36,232/year.
The candidate appointed to this position will be eligible to participate in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program. Through this program, employees receive yearly performance evaluations. Performance advances are payable to CSEA employees whose base annual salary is below the job rate for their current position and who were rated ‘Satisfactory’ or its equivalent on their yearly performance evaluation. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary.
Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-6 job rate salary of $44,828/year!
