Investment Banking Analyst – Job Description

Position Overview

A software/SaaS tech M&A firm is seeking an experienced Analyst responsible for supporting senior bankers in executing mergers and acquisitions (M&A), capital raising, and strategic advisory transactions. Analysts perform financial analysis, build valuation models, prepare client presentations, and conduct industry and company research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain financial models, including:
  • Discounted Cash Flow (DCF)
  • Comparable Company Analysis
  • Precedent Transaction Analysis
  • LBO and merger models (as required)
  • Prepare pitch books, presentations, and marketing materials for clients
  • Conduct financial, industry, and market research
  • Analyze financial statements and assess company performance
  • Assist in due diligence and transaction execution
  • Support senior bankers during live deals and client meetings
  • Coordinate with internal teams (legal, accounting, compliance)
  • Monitor market trends and relevant news
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of specific Software and/or SaaS sector specific M&A experience at a competing investment bank
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Solid understanding of corporate finance and valuation concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power Point
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work long hours in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior full-time experience in software/SaaS/Tech investment banking, finance, consulting, or accounting
  • Familiarity with financial databases (Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Fact Set)
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  • Exposure to modeling or valuation coursework
  • Financial modeling and valuation
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Time management and multitasking
  • Teamwork and professionalism
  • Strong work ethic and resilience
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure setting
  • Long and irregular hours, especially during live transactions
