Position Details
The City of New York's (CUNY) Financial Reporting and Analysis team performs critical functions within Controller Operations, a department that directly reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Budget, Finance and Labor Relations and Chief Financial Officer. The team works with CUNY's 26 colleges and 86 affiliated entities (such as the Research Foundation and college associations) to gather the necessary information to properly consolidate and accurately report financial information to senior management and the University's external auditors.
Additionally, the team plays a critical role in the accounting and reporting of approximately $12.30.6 billion in assets and deferred outflows of resources and $10.8 billion in liabilities and deferred inflows of resources associated with the university's business activities.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Reporting and Analysis, the Financial Analyst is responsible for the University's system maintenance, analysis, and reporting of all non-tax-levy activities. The incumbent will work closely with the Colleges’ business offices and their related entities, the University Treasury Office, the CUNY Research Foundation (RF), as well as various New York City and New York State agencies.
Responsibilities- Liaises with Colleges and other agencies for related entity activities.
- Collaborates with the Financial Reporting and Analysis team in preparing the University’s general‑purpose financial statements, CUNY RF indirect cost recovery, and Integrated Post‑Secondary Educational Data Systems (IPEDS) report.
- Collaborates with the Associate Director on compiling, reviewing, and preparing financial analysis for the University and its related entities’ activities with support from the Colleges' accounting offices.
- Contributes and participates in the development of business process guidance, formal and informational training and system development, and analysis of all the University's related entity activities, particularly related to general ledger and treasury accounting.
- Assists with:
- the timely reconciliation of deposit and transfer accounts in coordination with New York City and New York State financial entities.
- the preparation and execution of fund‑related transactions, including investment pool activities, financial statement components, footnote disclosures, and other assigned accounting entries.
- the analysis and preparation of management and financial reports as assigned.
- Provides support for ongoing CUNY ERP implementation and enhancement, and assists with system conversions, implementations, and upgrades related to financial data.
- Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
QualificationsMinimum:
Bachelor’s Degree and four years’ related experience required.
- Advanced degree in accounting or related discipline.
- Professional accounting or financial licensure/certification (e.g. CPA).
- Knowledge of GASB reporting requirements.
- Detail‑oriented and accurate, with strong numerical analysis, evaluation, and research skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and collaboratively in a team setting with diverse stakeholders in various organizational levels.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with competing deadlines.
- Computer proficiency using financial and administrative systems and databases and remote/virtual meeting and collaboration tools (Office 365, MS Teams, Zoom); advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint) with intermediate to advanced proficiency using MS Excel spreadsheet functions to perform complex data analyses (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, sorting); experience with People Soft ERP systems (preferred).
