Controller - New York City (on-site)
We have been engaged to recruit a Corporate Controller for a dynamic and well‑respected organization with it’s headquarters in New York City. This profitable, privately held company operates in multiple countries. The Corporate Controller will collaborate closely with the CFO and executive leadership team to oversee the daily operational accounting and financial activities for this manufacturing and distribution business.
The ideal candidate will bring experience working directly with executive leaders and entrepreneurial ownership teams; he or she should have a background in manufacturing or a related industry. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, a strategic growth mindset, and a high level of financial acumen.
The key needs in this role include- Budgeting: develop and implement processes, metrics and structure to produce accurate budget‑to‑actual reports and dashboard insights.
- FP&A: conduct comprehensive sales and customer margin analysis, delivering both financial and operational reporting dashboards (execute and present)
- Financial Statements: ensure timely, accurate preparation and presentation of financial statements
- Tax: partner with internal teams and external advisors to provide accurate data, documentation, and thorough review of tax filings and related materials.
- Oversee daily operational accounting responsibilities, including budgeting / forecasting, monthly consolidations, month‑end close and providing accurate and timely financial statements and related analysis
- Supervise and develop a small finance and accounting team, including corporate accounting and A/P and A/R functions
- Maintain standard operational accounting practices, cash management strategies and budgeting and forecasting activities
- Execute daily cash management function, monitoring cash flow and managing the line of credit
- Monitor inventory levels and turnover, working with the CFO to implement an accurate cost out model and set up a standard costing system to increase forecast accuracy and reduce estimating and pricing errors
- Provide reporting around pricing strategy and job costing as well as budget forecasting and comparison to actuals
- Oversee accurate and increasing job and customer profitability, analyzing budgeted hourly rates for estimating and job costing and overseeing sales commission calculations
- Support any post‑merger integration of acquisitions from an accounting and reporting perspective
- Act as key member of ERP implementation team during upgrade and optimization projects, providing data integrity analysis and supporting the setup of accurate and repeatable internal reporting processes
- Manage annual financial statement audit and periodic bank and tax audits; ad hoc projects may include setting up new divisions or business line structures, updating/integrating new software packages or billing/tracking protocols
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s degree, CPA or CMA highly preferred
- 5+ years of manufacturing industry experience with exposure to job cost accounting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with operations, sales and other departments
- Intermediate to advanced software / ERP and financial reporting skills
