Location: New York

The Controller provides strategic and operational leadership across all financial functions of a multi-entity organization. This role combines hands‑on execution with forward‑looking financial strategy, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and scalable infrastructure to support growth. Serves as a key advisor to executive leadership while building and leading a high‑performing finance team.

Core Responsibilities Financial Operations Leadership
  • Maintain full accountability for all financial operations, including accounting, reporting, and documentation integrity.
  • Lead all core accounting functions, including general ledger oversight, month‑end close, and preparation of GAAP‑compliant financial statements.
  • Ensure continuous audit readiness; manage external audit relationships and oversee smooth, timely audit execution.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end revenue cycle operations from authorization through payment collection.
  • Direct accounts receivable functions, monitor billing compliance, and improve collection performance.
  • Oversee accounts payable operations, vendor management, payment processing, and 1099 compliance.
  • Supervise payroll processing for a large, multi‑thousand‑employee workforce, ensuring accuracy and tax compliance.
  • Manage financial reporting across multiple entities, including both for‑profit and nonprofit structures, ensuring proper segregation and compliance.
Cash Management & Banking
  • Oversee cash management, liquidity planning, cash flow forecasting, and working capital optimization.
  • Serve as primary liaison for banking relationships, loan agreements, covenant compliance, and lender reporting.
  • Monitor financial covenants and proactively communicate with lenders to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate ownership distributions in partnership with executive leadership.
Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Ensure adherence to industry‑specific financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee compliance with government contract financial covenants and audit obligations.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance documentation and reporting standards.
  • Lead tax return preparation, filing, and overall tax compliance processes.
  • Design and implement robust financial controls and risk management frameworks.
Budgeting & Financial Performance
  • Develop and institutionalize organization‑wide budgeting processes and financial discipline.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular variance analysis to executive leadership.
  • Identify key financial improvement opportunities annually and implement initiatives to enhance profitability and EBITDA.
  • Partner with operational leaders to translate financial insights into measurable performance improvements.
  • Analyze labor, cost, and operational trends to identify inefficiencies and implement corrective strategies.
Strategic Finance
  • Provide financial modeling, analysis, and insights to support executive decision‑making and long‑term planning.
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives with data‑driven financial recommendations.
  • Scale financial systems and infrastructure to support organizational growth.
  • Prepare financial analysis and documentation to support potential strategic transactions.
  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems to improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and data integrity.
  • Build, lead, and develop a finance team of 10–12 professionals across accounting, payroll, AR, and AP functions.
  • Assess team capabilities and implement structural or personnel changes to optimize performance.
  • Establish clear accountability standards and foster a culture of accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop team members to meet evolving organizational needs.
  • Delegate effectively while maintaining oversight and accountability for outcomes.
