Our client a well known University is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant in their New York, New York Location!
Position Description- Member of the University’s Tax Department supporting overall tax compliance and advisory efforts
- Responsible for tax filings including Forms 990, 990-T, 4720, 1120, sales tax, excise tax, and unclaimed property reporting
- Prepare and review multiple federal and state tax filings and related documentation
- Develop tax adjustment work papers to support filings
- Collect, analyze, and interpret financial and operational data for tax reporting purposes
- Analyze and track complex financial instruments reported on Form 990-T
- Prepare informational tax reporting related to foreign operations and activities
- Summarize tax reporting data and present findings to upper management
- Track, manage, and ensure compliance with all tax filing deadlines
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess potential impacts
- Coordinate and communicate with internal departments to gather required information
- Play a significant role in sales tax compliance and filings
- Maintain strong understanding of multi-state sales tax regulations and requirements
- Assist with unclaimed property outreach, compliance, and reporting
- Support Executive Director and Associate Directors with tax advisory and consulting matters
- Contribute to internal process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Perform related duties and special projects as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience
- Experience in public accounting, tax, or non-profit finance preferred
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Visio)
- Experience with tracker or workflow management software required
- Knowledge of robotic process automation preferred
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to clearly explain complex tax concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Strong active listening skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong financial analysis, reporting, and accounting skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a complex organizational environment
- Comfortable working in high-pressure, fast-paced settings
- Proven ability to meet strict deadlines
- Deep understanding of tax laws and compliance regulations
- Strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and customer service
