The Opportunity:The "Builder" Role
Most startups promise a "fast-paced environment" as a euphemism for burnout. This role is the exception. Our client—a leading NYC-based Fintech firm—is currently launching a new Broker-Dealer entity and expanding into complex Capital Markets, including commercial paper and swaps.
They are looking for a "Builder" Senior Accountant to report directly to a high-caliber Controller. Because this is a new venture, there is no "dusty manual" or prior-year work papers to rely on. You will be the architect of the financial infrastructure, creating the blueprints, interfacing with trading teams, and automating systems from the ground up.
The RoleAs the Senior Accountant, you will work under the guidance and Accounting Manager to oversee the financial operations for this new business line. You will bridge the gap between complex trading activities and institutional-grade financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:- System Architecture: Design and implement the month-end close process, account reconciliations, and financial reporting workflows for a new Broker-Dealer.
- Capital Markets Operations: Navigate the accounting complexities of commercial paper, swaps, and basic derivatives.
- Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage the P&L, balance sheet integrity, and ledger accuracy without the safety net of existing templates.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary accounting interface for the trading and capital markets teams to ensure seamless data flow and trade reconciliation.
- Automation & Scalability: Identify opportunities to automate manual entries and streamline reporting as the entity scales.
- The "Blank Canvas" Mindset: You are a self-directed learner who is energized—not intimidated—by the opportunity to build something from scratch.
- Technical Proficiency: You have a solid grasp of GAAP, particularly as it relates to financial services, derivatives, or capital markets.
- Systems Savvy: Experience with modern ERPs (Netsuite ideally) and an interest in using technology to eliminate manual tasks.
- Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience within financial services, preferably a broker/dealer or within Product Control. Public accounting candidates with capital markets clients are also highly encouraged to apply.
- True Ownership: You aren't just maintaining a process; you are creating it. This is a "career-defining" project that looks exceptional on a resume.
- Prime
Location:
Work from a beautiful, modern office overlooking Bryant Park. - Total Rewards: Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and meaningful equity.
