Job Description
The Corporate Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing the company's quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes). This role ensures accurate calculation and reporting of current and deferred taxes, effective tax rate reconciliation, uncertain tax positions (under ASC 740-10/FIN 48), and related financial statement disclosures. The position collaborates with finance, external auditors, and tax compliance teams to support timely and compliant financial reporting for public or private companies.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review quarterly and annual income tax provisions in compliance with US GAAP (ASC 740), including current tax expense, deferred tax assets/liabilities, valuation allowances, and effective tax rate (ETR) calculations.
- Perform detailed analysis and reconciliation of the effective tax rate, deferred tax roll forwards, tax payable balances, and temporary differences (e.g., book/tax differences for fixed assets, accruals, NOLs, credits).
- Identify, analyze, and document uncertain tax positions (UTPs) under ASC 740-10 (formerly FIN 48), including recognition, measurement, and disclosure of reserves.
- Maintain and update deferred tax schedules, tax basis balance sheets, and supporting documentation for audit readiness.
- Collaborate with external auditors on tax provision reviews, provide supporting schedules, and address audit inquiries related to ASC 740 matters.
- Assist in tax accounting for complex transactions (e.g., M&A, restructurings, international operations, new tax laws, or accounting standard updates).
- Prepare or contribute to ASC 740-related financial statement footnotes and disclosures, including rate reconciliations, deferred tax components, and UTP roll forwards.
- Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation, accounting standards, and their impact on the tax provision process.
- Utilize tax provision software (e.g., One Source Tax Provision, Longview, Corptax, or similar) to streamline calculations and reporting.
- Support ad-hoc tax projects, such as valuation allowance assessments, jurisdictional apportionment analysis, or integration of new entities/business lines.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field
- 5-10+ years of relevant experience in income tax accounting/provision, with strong emphasis on ASC 740 (public company experience highly preferred; Big 4 or large corporate tax department background a plus).
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP ASC 740, including deferred taxes, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, and financial statement presentation/disclosure requirements.
- Proficiency in tax provision software and Microsoft Excel (advanced modeling skills required).
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines (e.g., quarterly close cycles).
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders and auditors.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
