Controller – Heavy Civil Construction (Greater NYC Area)

Join a respected heavy civil contractor delivering high-profile infrastructure projects across the New York tri-state region. For more than two decades, the company has partnered with major public agencies on sewer, water main, roadway, and sitework initiatives. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function and serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership.

In this role, you will oversee the monthly close and ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards. You will manage internal and external audits—including financial, union, insurance, and agency reviews—and help strengthen financial controls and compliance. The position also includes responsibility for tax filings (fuel taxes, payroll, and sales/use), developing cost-efficiency initiatives, and providing analysis that supports operational decision-making and project performance.

The Controller will supervise and mentor the accounting team, improve workflows, and introduce systems or procedures that increase accuracy and productivity. You’ll regularly present financial insights to management and collaborate with operations to support company growth and profitability.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility
• Strong financial reporting, audit, and compliance background
• Knowledge of construction or project-based accounting preferred
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems (Viewpoint or similar a plus)
• CPA or advanced credential preferred
