Director of Accounting

Position Overview

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Accounting to lead our accounting function during a period of rapid growth. This role will oversee financial reporting, technical accounting, close processes, and internal controls while partnering closely with FP&A, compliance, product, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate has strong experience in technology or financial services environments and is comfortable building scalable accounting infrastructure.

• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Oversee preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Design, implement, and improve accounting policies, processes, and internal controls to support company growth and audit readiness.
• Manage technical accounting matters including revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, leases, and complex financial instruments.
• Partner with compliance and legal teams to support regulatory reporting and audits.
• Oversee external audit, tax providers, and third-party accounting partners.
• Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, operations, and engineering to ensure accounting impacts are addressed in new initiatives.
• Drive automation and process improvements across ERP and financial systems.
• Support strategic initiatives including fundraising, M&A, and new product launches from an accounting perspective.
• Develop accounting policies and controls around cash management, payments, and fintech-related transaction flows.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
• 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
• Experience in fintech, financial services, SaaS, payments, or high-growth technology environments.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal control frameworks.
• Experience scaling accounting processes and implementing systems (ERP experience required; Net Suite or similar preferred).
• Proven ability to lead audits and manage external advisors.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience with regulated financial entities (payments, lending, digital assets, or brokerage platforms).
• Exposure to SOC controls, PCI considerations, or regulatory examinations.
• Prior experience preparing for IPO or working within PE/VC-backed companies.
• Advanced knowledge of revenue recognition for subscription or transaction-based models.
