Location: New York

We are partnering with a single family office to hire an Assistant Controller who will play a critical, hands-on role across the full accounting lifecycle. This individual will support complex multi-asset investment accounting while also owning day-to-day operational accounting for family entities, operating companies, and holding structures.

This is an A–Z accounting role requiring someone comfortable moving between investment reporting, entity-level accounting, and detailed transactional work.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain accounting and reporting across multiple investment strategies.
  • Track capital calls, distributions, and commitments across fund investments
  • Record investment activity, valuations, and performance reporting
  • Coordinate with external fund administrators, custodians, and investment managers
  • Support quarterly and annual investment reporting packages for family stakeholders
  • Assist with look-through reporting and consolidation across investment vehicles

Entity, Operational & General Accounting (A–Z)

  • Own full-cycle accounting for family entities, holding companies, and operating entities
  • Handle:
  • Journal entries
  • Cash management and reconciliations
  • Accounts payable and expense allocations
  • Intercompany accounting and eliminations
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
  • Ensure accurate tracking of owner distributions, management fees, and related-party transactions

Controls, Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Assist with internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
  • Support tax preparation by coordinating with external tax advisors and providing schedules
  • Help streamline processes, improve reporting, and implement best practices as the office scales
  • Participate in audits or reviews as needed

Ideal Background

  • 5–10+ years of accounting experience with exposure to:
  • Family offices, private investment firms, or alternative asset managers
  • Public accounting with investment, financial services, or complex entity experience
  • Strong understanding of investment accounting and entity-level accounting
  • Experience working in lean, high-touch environments where you “own the work”
  • Comfortable with both strategic reporting and detailed transactional work
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting systems used in family office or investment environments
