Overview
A privately held family office based in New York City is seeking a Tax Associate to support the tax planning, compliance, and reporting needs of a multi-generational ultra-high-net-worth family. The family office oversees a diverse portfolio of operating businesses, real estate holdings, investment partnerships, trusts, and personal entities, and serves as the centralized platform for coordinating financial, tax, estate, and administrative matters on behalf of the family.
The family office is intentionally lean and highly service-oriented, with an internal tax function responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing tax returns across the family’s entities and structures. This role offers meaningful exposure to complex individual, partnership, trust, and estate tax matters within a sophisticated family office environment.
Position Overview
The Tax Associate – Family Office will support all aspects of tax compliance, reporting, and coordination across the family office, affiliated entities, trusts, and individual family members. As a member of the internal tax department, this role is directly involved in the preparation and filing of tax returns and works closely with senior finance leadership to ensure timely filings, accurate documentation, and proactive tax planning support.
This position exists to reduce the tax-related administrative burden on the family office leadership and principals by managing data collection, reconciliations, schedules, and communications related to tax compliance and planning, while contributing to the execution of in-house tax preparation and review processes.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting Support
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of federal, state, and local tax filings for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and family entities
- Gather, organize, and reconcile tax documentation, including K-1s, 1099s, brokerage statements, and partnership schedules
- Prepare supporting schedules, work papers, and reconciliations to support in-house tax preparation and review processes
- Track filing deadlines, extensions, and estimated tax payments and maintain tax compliance calendars
- Prepare consolidated tax reporting summaries and analyses for internal review and sign-off
- Assist with tax-related aspects of trust and estate planning by preparing data, schedules, and summaries
- Support administration of grantor and non-grantor trusts, including income tracking and distribution reporting
- Help maintain records related to estate structures, gifting activity, and inter-entity transactions
Family Office Operations
- Maintain organized, accurate, and confidential tax records and documentation across all entities
- Assist with financial and tax administration for personal assets, charitable giving vehicles, and family foundations
- Collaborate with accounting and finance team members to ensure alignment between financial reporting and tax reporting
- Contribute to the improvement of internal tax processes, documentation, and workflows
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
- 2–5 years of relevant tax experience, ideally in private client, partnership, or trust and estate focus
- Working knowledge of individual and trust taxation
- Strong foundational understanding of accounting principles and tax laws
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Proficiency in Excel with experience using tax software and document management platforms preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Service-oriented mindset with professionalism and discretion
- Comfortable operating in a lean, high-trust environment with evolving responsibilities

Compensation: $100,000 – $125,000 per year, dependent on experience, plus comprehensive benefits
