Grassi's Client, Holt Construction, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their growing team!

Location: Pearl River, NY, onsite 5x a week

Candidate must have Construction Industry experience

Summary: The Financial Controller plays a key role responsible for business unit financials. This position oversees A/R, A/P, Payroll, and all financial activities, as well as the overall financial health of the business units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential risks or areas of improvement.
  • Prepare projected cash flow reports.
  • Prepare budgets /forecasts and review/compare budget to actual performances for each business unit.
  • Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide management and owners.
  • Monthly closing of internal financials, including preparation of WIP schedule, analysis of bank account, A/R, A/P and accruals etc.
  • Manage Monthly Business Unit Forecast.
  • Maintain a strong system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Coordinate external audits as needed with outside accounting firm, bank auditors, union auditors, insurance company, and bonding company.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Project Accountants to track project budgets, commitments, and cost changes.
  • Collect job cost data including payroll reports, materials, and subcontractor billings in order to prepare monthly cost report for each project.
  • Coordinate with CFO on banking relationships, debt compliance, and bonding requirements.
  • Support CFO in managing financial risks, including credit exposure and insurance renewals.
  • Maintain transparency in overhead allocation methodologies and ensure consistency in application.
  • Oversee A/R department with preparation of monthly invoices and collections.
  • Oversee A/P and Payroll Departments.
  • Mentor and Develop accounting staff, including project accountants, AP/AR and payroll.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing professional staff.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and manage the work assignments and work product of direct reports.
  • Manage, and support staff members to maximize performance and career potential. Assist in the training and development of all staff.
  • Coach and counsel employees on performance management issues. Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Address performance issues timely.
  • Regularly review the performance of all direct reports, including leading the formal (mid-year and year-end) reviews and make recommendations regarding staffing, promotions, developmental needs, position evaluations, and compensation.
  • Develop a succession plan for key positions, as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA a plus.
  • 5-7 years of performing accounting functions in a corporate environment.
  • Construction Industry experience required.
  • Solid working knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously, meet critical deadlines, and prioritize assignments accordingly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential/proprietary information.
  • High level of time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
