Met Life Insurance Investments (MII) is the global internal investment manager responsible for the general account and separate account assets of Met Life’s Insurance Companies. For the general account, which totals over $400 billion in assets, MII develops and manages investment strategies in a manner consistent with business needs, including practicing asset-liability management and seeking investments with attractive relative value characteristics across asset sectors.
MII designs strategic asset allocations to construct and manage portfolios while allowing for tactical adjustments that can maximize risk-adjusted returns over market cycles.
MII partners closely with each Met Life line of business to establish portfolio strategies, investment guidelines, and asset allocations to meet or exceed key metrics and other business objectives and interfaces with Met Life Investment Management, the primary asset manager for the general account. MII has oversight responsibility for asset managers managing about $105 billion of separate account assets and manages Met Life pension plan assets totaling about $12 billion.
The MII team consists of investment professionals across a diverse set of disciplines including insurance portfolio management, investment strategy, asset allocation, product pricing, asset sector oversight, derivative solutions and trading as well as analysis of external manager capabilities. The team operates in the United States, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Its stewardship of the general account has spanned Met Life’s 155-year history and MII plays an integral role in helping Met Life deliver on its promises to clients.
The Investment Analyst will be part of the Investment Strategy team that proposes, reports and monitors the ongoing asset allocation primarily for Met Life’s US general account, in consultation with the MII leadership team. The team will also partner with international chief investment officers to build consistency in the approach to asset allocation for the global businesses. The Investment Strategy Team is a key contact point with MII colleagues in the development and execution of portfolio strategies to support key metrics and strategic initiatives.
The team will be a key interface with MIM, particularly the Insurance Asset Management Team, when coordinating and overseeing execution of MII’s quarterly / ongoing asset allocation plan.
Support the development of capital market themes that inform risk and opportunities across asset sectors.
Support MII’s quarterly asset allocation plan for the US general account (QAA).
Conduct and report quarterly relative value analysis across asset sectors as a key input for QAA.
Monitor MII asset gain/loss programs.
Oversee execution and track the progress of the MII asset allocation by the MIM team.
Partner with Investment Finance to submit / verify investment assumptions for Plan and projection.
Support MII on product, capital, earning and other line-of-business initiatives across US Business, Met Life Holdings, M&A, Risk, Treasury, Finance, and reinsurance.
Support the development of investment and pricing strategies, incorporating macroeconomic, market, asset supply, ALM, and business considerations.
Required:
7+ years industry and related asset management experience.
Good understanding of capital market's structure and dynamics.
Good understanding of insurance industry balance sheets, financial analysis and regulatory regimes.
Good understanding of fixed income and equity investments and their role within insurance portfolios under multiple regulatory regimes.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree required. MBA preferred.
