Overview

Senior Manager, Operational Risk Advisor

Do you like a fast-paced work environment, engaging as a leader in Capital One’s second line of defense for operational risk management? As a Senior Operational Risk Advisor (ORA) in Capital One’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) Department you will apply your leadership and analytical skills to help advance Capital One’s capabilities to effectively manage operational risk. Working with key first and second line risk leaders, the ORA will provide second line operational risk governance, challenge, and risk advisory services.

Operational Risk Advisors are experienced risk managers that serve as the liaisons between ORM and the entire enterprise. Serving as both an effective challenger and a trusted advisor, ORAs are integrated into multiple dimensions of first line activities and risk-taking. As a Senior Manager, the role will require payments network expertise, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, superb integrative thinking across the facets of operational risk and a desire to help the enterprise properly manage operational risk.

Responsibilities
  • Provide challenge to the first line of defense’s risk-taking and risk assessments
  • Evaluation of new products and initiatives from an operational risk perspective
  • Consult with business teams on projects, new initiatives, business objectives, processes, risk events, controls, and/or monitoring
  • Evaluate the operational risk profile and risk analysis for the business division, culminating in quarterly Divisional Operational Risk Reporting
  • Working across the multiple dimensions of operational risk programs and understanding how they impact the business units
  • Influencing senior risk leaders within ORM and first-line on key operational risks and actions needed
  • As needed, developing ad-hoc analysis, deep dive investigations, control testing, and driving specific risk initiatives
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of risk management experience in first, second, or third line of defense
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, Information Technology, Accounting, or Economics
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Risk Manager within financial services
  • 5+ years of risk management, compliance or legal oversight experience with a payments network
  • Experience with payment network operational processes
  • Proficiency with structuring executive-level decks and presentations
  • Experience with data analytics tools such as Excel and Tableau

Compensation and Benefits

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $177,700 - $202,800 for Sr. Risk Manager

New York, NY: $193,800 - $221,200 for Sr. Risk Manager

Richmond, VA: $161,500 - $184,300 for Sr. Risk Manager

Riverwoods, IL: $161,500 - $184,300 for Sr. Risk Manager

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
