Role Overview

Role Overview:

The Tax Manager – Real Estate will play a key role within the firm’s growing Tax practice, with a primary focus on real estate-related tax compliance, planning, and consulting
. This role is responsible for reviewing complex federal and state tax returns, managing client engagements, and leading and developing tax staff.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge in partnership taxation and real estate transactions
, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to clients while collaborating closely with Partners and internal teams. Relocation is a consideration.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA, JD, or EA license required.
  • 8+ years of experience reviewing complex tax returns.
  • Strong experience with real estate tax matters
    , including partnership taxation, 1031 exchanges, depreciation methods, and real estate professional rules.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state tax compliance
    , tax accounting, and return review.
  • Experience managing, supervising, and mentoring tax professionals.
  • Familiarity with Quick Books is highly desired.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review Complex Tax Returns: Review partnership, S corporation, and high-net-worth individual tax returns, with a strong emphasis on real estate entities.
  • Manage Tax Engagements: Oversee tax compliance, consulting projects, and related engagements from planning through completion.
  • Partnership Tax Analysis: Analyze partnership agreements and financial statements to ensure accurate income, deduction, and allocation reporting.
  • Handle Advanced Tax Issues: Research and apply complex partnership tax concepts, including capital accounts
    , targeted allocations
    , basis adjustments
    , and Section 163(j) considerations.
  • Real Estate Tax Planning: Support tax structuring and planning for acquisitions, dispositions,
    1031 exchanges
    , qualified opportunity zones, and carried interests.
  • Client Advisory: Build strong client relationships and provide proactive tax planning and consulting support.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervise, train, and develop tax staff while managing workflow and resource allocation.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement best practices to improve efficiency and quality across tax processes.
  • Stay Current: Monitor tax law changes, new legislation, and industry trends to ensure proactive client service.
