Overview
The Accounting Director is responsible for overseeing the organization’s full accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, effective internal controls, and leading the team through external audits and Single Audits. The role leads the month-end close, manages day-to-day accounting functions, coordinates government grants and programs’ financial reporting, and supports executive leadership with timely financial insights to guide strategic decision-making.
The individual will manage and develop the accounting team, streamline processes, and ensure data integrity across financial files, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Human Resources, Claims, IT, Actuarial and Operations.
- Oversee & operate Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Financial reporting and filing for Government grants & programs, including cost reports (MMCOR)
- Leadership and team management
- Systems, processes, and data integrity
- Compliance & regulatory
- Strategic support
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA preferred (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with healthcare finance: managed care & health insurance
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills
- Strong leadership presence and ability to communicate clearly with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Proactive problem-solver with a conƟnuous improvement mindset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
- High integrity and commitment to quality and accountability
