Role Overview

Do you have interest in corporate actions? Special situations encompass a broad range of corporate actions, with significant focus on merger arbitrage, pre‑M&A events, and spin‑offs. The role incorporates various aspects of corporate finance, legal and regulatory analysis, financial markets and instruments, sales, data analytics, and entrepreneurship.

Responsibilities
  • Originate and help conduct expert conference calls for clients.
  • Assist the team with all aspects of client coverage, including proactive client communications and administrative tasks of meeting coordination.
  • Help keep track of deal‑specific and pre‑event information to contribute to the morning process and the risk management of the cash trading desk.
  • Liaise with derivatives and financing desks.
  • Produce analytical content on corporate actions within the team’s coverage universe.
  • Expand the team’s coverage to include potentially SPACs, share‑class trades, and cross‑asset event‑driven trades, and work on systematic strategies to assess and manage risk in corporate actions.
About the Team
  • The Special Situations team focuses on US and Canadian merger arbitrage, as well as corporate events such as exchange offers, Dutch tenders, spin‑offs, and pre‑M&A.
  • Works closely with counterparts in Europe, Australia, and Asia to analyze cross‑border corporate events.
  • Services merger arbitrage and event‑driven hedge fund clients.
  • Collaborates with cash trading, derivatives, equity finance, prime brokerage, and index desks to provide risk management and content to hedge fund clients.
  • Supports desk work in both merger arbitrage and pre‑event situations and expands transaction coverage, increasing trading revenues, and fills gaps in event‑driven coverage.
Candidate Profile
  • College degree with proven academic excellence; a master’s degree or relevant work experience encouraged.
  • Coding familiarity or experience encouraged but not required.
  • Strong analytical, reading, and writing skills essential.
  • Driven, detail‑oriented, and eager to learn.
  • Proven success in sales, teamwork, high‑pressure situations, solving complex problems, and taking initiatives.
