Our client, a real estate private equity fund manager located in NYC, is looking for an Assistant Controller with 6 to 12 years of accounting experience working with real estate private equity or traditional private equity funds. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of accounting for debt and/or equity funds investing in real assets. A mix of public and private accounting expeirence would be ideal.
The firm has been around for nearly 20 years and has invested in nearly $10B. The Assistant Controller will be part of a small team and as such, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment and have a willingness to actively participate in all aspects of the business. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the CAO, Controller and other team members as well as third party service providers.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Fund (working with fund administrator):
Accounting and financial reporting for commercial real estate and debt investments, complex joint ventures, and related consolidations and financial reporting - Work closely with Acquisitions, Asset Management, Management Accounting and Investor Relations teams. Partner with internal groups to provide accurate and up-to-date budgets and forecasts
- Coordinate year-end audits
- Participate in valuation process
- Monitor loan activity using data provided by loan servicers
- Assist in the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly reporting packages to fund investors
- Supervise, coach, and review the work of accounting staff
- Work closely with third-party service providers (audit firms, tax preparers) on REIT testing, audits, and tax reporting
- Handle investor requests, interacting with clients both directly and indirectly in a professional and responsive manner
- Support ad-hoc and special projects as needed
Required skills:
- 6–10 years of public and private accounting experience
- Understanding of partnership taxation
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- CPA preferred
- Excellent academic credentials
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong project, process and people management skills
- Able to multitask, take initiative and work well in a team-oriented small company environment
- Interest and willingness to actively participate in all aspects of the business
- Personal and professional integrity of the highest level
- Excellent team player and strong interpersonal skills
