Position OverviewThe Vice President in the Financial Sponsors Group plays a critical leadership role in originating engagement opportunities from private company investors, including private equity firms, growth equity investors, family offices, and other noninstitutional investors. The VP serves as the day-to-day manager of the group's junior resources and provides support to banking teams across the organization, ensuring efficient execution of the group's initiatives and logistics on a daily basis.
This is a small, high-impact team consisting of one Associate and three Managing Directors. The VP will work closely with the Associate in the New York office, with mentorship and leadership development being a critical aspect of the role. The position offers significant exposure and opportunity for professional growth within a sales-focused, metrics-driven environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Origination: The VP contributes to originating new business opportunities by tracking sponsor activity, industry trends, and portfolio company performance. Responsibilities include covering accounts that present near and medium-term revenue opportunities, ongoing fund coverage curation, and initiating coverage on additional high-priority accounts. The VP develops relationships with decision-makers at covered firms beyond business development conversations, building a strong reputation in the business development community.
The role requires partnering with senior sponsors group members and industry bankers to develop new business strategies, prepare pitch materials, and drive relationship engagement.
Team Management: The VP oversees and mentors the junior Associate across a number of tasks, including ongoing administrative deliverables and conference and event-related projects and communications, both internal and external. The VP is responsible for training industry bankers in the US and other geographies on general best practices and keys to success in working with the Financial Sponsors Group.
Required QualificationsCandidates must hold a Bachelor's degree and have at least 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, with M&A transaction execution experience required. Significant exposure to financial sponsors is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate may have 3+ years on a deal team with an additional year or more in a sponsors-focused role. A proven track record executing M&A transactions and a strong understanding of private equity dynamics, transaction structures, and capital markets products are essential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management abilities, along with strong analytical and financial modeling skills and a proven understanding of valuations and deal analysis. The role demands a highly sales-focused professional who is excited about business development and comfortable with progress and metrics being tracked. The ability to develop and maintain relationships with institutional investors and private equity decision-makers is critical, as is the capacity to manage and mentor junior team members effectively.
Location& Team Structure
This position is based in New York and requires working closely with the Associate in the office. The VP will collaborate with three Managing Directors and play a pivotal leadership role within this tight-knit, high-performing team.
