this Role
The Vice President, Catalytic Finance, plays a crucial role at The Rockefeller Foundation by leading efforts to design and scale financial instruments aimed at mobilizing capital for social and climate impact. The position is pivotal in advancing the Foundation’s programmatic goals, focusing on areas such as energy abundance, food systems transformation, and health. Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Programs, the Vice President will manage the creation and implementation of innovative instruments, such as guarantees and insurance products, and oversee a portfolio of Program Related Investments.
This role demands a strategic leader to work with a high‑performing team to accelerate market adoption in key areas by unlocking philanthropic capital for scalable development impact.
- Lead the Foundation’s Catalytic Finance team and manage Program‑Related Investments (PRIs).
- Partner with program teams to design catalytic finance strategies.
- Represent the Foundation in high‑level forums and public‑private partnerships.
- Develop and deploy blended finance vehicles and other financial instruments.
- Evaluate and manage a portfolio of PRIs, ensuring impact and financial objective alignment.
- Oversee full lifecycle and governance of PRIs in coordination with related teams.
- Cultivate relationships with financial institutions, peers, and stakeholders.
- Advise external stakeholders on inclusive financing mechanisms.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to share insights and elevate initiatives.
- Track performance metrics with the Strategic Learning and Impact team.
- Deliver performance reports on the PRI portfolio and other aligned responsibilities.
- Manage responsibilities related to the Foundation’s Zero Gap Fund.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or development finance.
- Proven track record in sourcing, executing, managing, and exiting financial transactions.
- Experience in emerging markets finance, particularly in climate, agriculture, and infrastructure.
- Expertise in innovative finance mechanisms like blended finance and impact investing.
- Experience in mobilizing private capital for development impact in underserved markets.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, or related field; MBA preferred.
