The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health. ** Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties of a Management Auditor – Assignment Level I
  • Conduct audits of vendor payments and fiscal operations to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Review expenditures for accuracy and appropriateness, identifying potential fraud or misappropriation.
  • Independently analyze and review technical contract payments to ensure invoice accuracy and compliance with prompt payment requirements.
  • Independently review miscellaneous and employee expense transactions to ensure correctness and compliance.
  • Prepare and draft audit reports, including findings, comments, and recommendations to management.
  • Assist with the annual fiscal year-end closing process.
  • Provide support to supervisors and assist with staff guidance when needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Work Authorization

Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner does not provide sponsorship for international employees for visa applications, extensions, or status changes, including STEM/OPT visas. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they meet all qualifying requirements for this position at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting, and one of the following: one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in management auditing, financial auditing, and/or information technology auditing; or a valid Certified Public Accountant license issued by the New York State Education Department;

    or a valid Certified Internal Auditor certificate issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA); or a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.
  • Undergraduate or graduate credits from an accredited college or university in management, computer science, public administration, and/or business administration may be substituted for up to 9 semester credits in accounting, on a credit for credit basis.
  • All candidates must have a baccalaureate degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting, and one of the following: at least one year of the experience described in "1(A)" above or its equivalent; or a Certified Public Accountant license; or a Certified Internal Auditor certificate, as described in "1(B)" or "1(C)" above.
