This is a hybrid opportunity and this role requires onsite in-office presence approximately 2 to 3 days per week at one of our office locations in New York City, Uniondale, Hauppauge, Berkeley Heights, or Tinton Falls.

The Underwriting Consultant plays a key role in shaping benefit strategies that make a real impact for clients. You’ll apply your deep understanding of employer-sponsored health and welfare plans — including federal and state regulations — to deliver meaningful insights and recommendations. Your analytical and financial support expertise would contribute to retaining and growing a portfolio of clients, drive data-informed benefit decisions, and enhance collaboration to meet client goals in a role where your expertise truly makes a difference.

• Underwrite group health plans across fully insured, minimum premium, level-funded, and self-insured arrangements.
• Project future plan costs and assess carrier renewal actions for accuracy and competitiveness.
• Use actuarial modeling tools to develop alternative funding strategies, assess financial impact of plan design changes, and support strategic decision‑making.
• Analyze claims utilization data to identify cost drivers and recommend financial strategies.
• Conduct holistic reviews of new business opportunities and present insights and recommendations to prospective clients.
• Stay current on industry trends and emerging cost containment strategies.

• 7+ years of experience in group medical underwriting at a carrier and/or consulting firm.
• Active Life, Accident, and Health Insurance License.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting.

At Risk Strategies Company, base pay is one part of our total compensation package, which also includes a comprehensive suite of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off and paid holidays for eligible employees. The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected base pay range for this position is between $84,200 - $150,000 annually.

The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
