Manager, Global Transaction Tax (State & Local Tax)
Alvarez & Marsal is a global consulting firm specializing in transaction and tax services. We are looking for a seasoned tax professional to join our Global Transaction Tax team in the State & Local Tax practice.
Responsibilities- Perform due diligence, including review of tax returns, financials, and other documentation to evaluate potential tax risks and opportunities.
- Review and comment on tax aspects of financial models, purchase agreements, and structuring calculations.
- Take ownership of assigned work streams, creating and preserving relevant diligence work products.
- Coordinate with federal and international tax team members, and financial and operational due diligence teammates, to deliver high‑quality integrated work product.
- Draft client‑ready reports summarizing tax issues and attributes identified during diligence.
- Draft exposure calculations to quantify issues identified during diligence.
- Identify, track, and pursue new business development and pull‑through opportunities.
- Begin to oversee, develop, mentor, and delegate work to a team of staff.
- Begin developing and assuming responsibility for managing client relationships by communicating and responding to client expectations, gathering data relevant to the engagement, and tailoring project deliverables accordingly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (required).
- Advanced Degree or Certification (CPA, MST, MAcc, JD, or LLM) required.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a mergers & acquisitions tax practice at a Big 4 firm, Big Law firm, or similar firm, with at least 2+ years in state and local tax.
- Significant knowledge of federal and state income tax, non‑income tax, and unclaimed property issues, and the ability to research and apply that knowledge to client situations.
- Strong writing, analytical, research, and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong sense of personal motivation and ability to work with a team.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, time‑sensitive, and sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and implement changes to continually improve performance of self and those who report to you.
• Salary $145,000 - $185,000 per year (dependent on education, experience, skills, and geography).
• Discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance.
