The Technical Director works as a member of the Senior Production Staff and works closely with the Production Stage Manager, Props Designer, and other members of the Production Staff to build, load-in, run, and strike all mainstage productions in our newly constructed, Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center. HVS is located in Garrison, NY, and operates under a unique open-air amphitheater, the Samuel H.
Scripps Theater Center; more information is available . This position reports to the Production Manager and Producing Director.
- Participate as a member of the Senior Production Staff. Senior Production Staff include the Production Manager, Production Stage Manager, Lighting Supervisor, Company Manager, Sound Supervisor, Wardrobe Supervisor, and Technical Director, and are responsible for overseeing the operations at the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center.
- Work with the Props Designers and Props Supervisor to construct and maintain scenic and prop elements for all productions.
- Work under the supervision of the Production Manager and Facilities Manager to load-in and strike the seasonal elements of the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center.
- Responsible for the safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVS work spaces and tools under the supervision of the Production Manager and Producing Director.
- Responsible for daily care and maintenance of the performance space, including the stage area.
- Member of the stage crew; the Technical Director will be responsible for running the deck for all mainstage shows under the supervision of the Production Stage Manager.
- Work with the Props Designers and Stage Managers to provide rehearsal room props and scenic elements.
- Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-racist backstage environment; display and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Demonstrated mastery of theatrical carpentry, knot-tying, soft goods, scenic props, and basic scenic paints.
- Knowledge of Vectorworks or AutoCAD drafting software, and ability to generate construction drawings, cut lists. Produce lumber, hardware, and shop supply purchase lists.
- Complete understanding of backstage etiquette. A good working knowledge of technical theatre practices.
- Valid Driver’s license and clean DMV record.
- This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. It requires the ability to climb ladders, operate lifts, and reach above one’s head lity to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 70 pounds and work outside. Comfortable working outdoors during the summer months.
This seasonal position is paid $990 per week from May 11 through September 27, 2026.
