Overview
The Sound Assistant works as a member of the Run Crew & works closely with the Sound Supervisor to execute designs at the newly constructed, Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center. The Run Crew will be an integral part of the production department providing support specifically to the sound, audio, and music departments through tech and performances. HVS is located in Garrison, NY, and operates under a unique open-air amphitheater, Samuel H.
Scripps Theater Center; more information is available . The Sound Assistant reports to the Production Manager and Producing Director.
- Be present and report on time to all scheduled shifts required including but not limited to notes calls, changeovers, tech rehearsals, previews, and performances.
- Serve as a member of the Run Crew for performances. Provide support in operating and programming audio equipment including operating a digital sound console. Support the lighting, audio, & props departments as needed while running shows in repertory throughout the 2026 season.
- Install audio and musical equipment as part of the rotating repertory schedule and the operations of the 2026 HVS Season.
- Maintain run of show paperwork, under the supervision of Sound supervisor and Stage Manager.
- Work with musicians and Sound Supervisor to monitor and stock perishables for the audio and music departments.
- Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-racist backstage environment.
- Practice and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Responsible for safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVS work spaces and tools under the supervision of the Sound Supervisor, Production Manager, and Producing Director.
- Background, degree, or equivalent experience in technical theater, with a focus on sound. Basic understanding and experience with sound consoles, audio equipment, and electrical & ladder safety.
- Complete understanding of backstage etiquette. A working knowledge of technical theatre practices
- Valid Driver’s license and clean DMV record and comfortable driving with passengers.
- HVS requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
- This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. It requires the ability to climb ladders, operate lifts, and reach above one’s head lity to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds and work outside. Comfortable working outdoors during the summer months.
- All staff will be required to assist in implementing HVS’s COVID-19 Safety Plan and follow all health and safety protocols including social distancing, proper mask wearing, and COVID testing provided by HVS.
- The Sound Assistant is required to be in residence in the Hudson Valley for the duration of this contract. Housing and transportation are provided.
This is a seasonal position paid $865 per week, May 26th through September 27th. Nights and weekends are required.
